Danba and the surrounding villages, Sichuan. Aug 10-11 2015

 Danba

Danba is a county in western Sichuan province.
The county is famous for its old watchtowers that are scattered around. You can spot four different types of watchtowers that were built in this area: Ya'oai (strategic tower), Fenghuo (beacon-fire), Zhai (village) & Jia (dwelling).
How did we get here: Shared taxi from Tagong (60 rmb per person, 3 hours) to Danba town and then another shared taxi to Jiaju village that costed us 50 rmb per person !? that's a lot money for a short ride, but somehow our driver skipt the checkpoint that we needed to pay an entrance fee and he took us to a viewpoint before he drove us to our "homestay". So it evens out :)
Sleep: Danbashuge 70 rmb per person including 3 meals.
Eat and drink: The owner of the "homestay" made great vegan dishes.
Did: Walking around the village and going to a preserved watchtower that was used by the red army. The watchtower is located at the entrance to the village (10 rmb entrance fee).
Bottom line: Go

Danba town

How did we get here: Taxi from Jiaju (50 rmb)
Sleep: Zhaxi Zhuokang backpackers hostel (70 rmb per room not attach toilets) nice and clean rooms and the owners are really nice and they helped us celebrate Pauline's B-day.
Eat and drink: in front of the hostel on the left side there is a good restaurant with no english name.
Did: Walking around town is really nice. We went also to Zhonglu village that  lovely old and reconstructed watchtowers are scattered around. The most famous one in the village is Qiang watchtower (10 rmb entrance fee)
Bottom line: Go
