Freezing in Shangri-La and going back to Kunming, Yunnan 19-21 July 2015

Shangri-La (Eden in dream) is located in the north west corner of Yunnan province at an average latitude of 3,000 meters above sea level . The town itself only got its attractive new name in 2001 in an effort to promote tourism to the area (it worked). The name Shangri-La comes from a James Hilton novel Lost Horizon.

How did we get here: With a mini bus from Tina Guesthouse in Tiger Leaping Gorge. It took us around 2.5 and 55 rmb per person.
Eating and Drinking:Bhaskar Resto- a nice mix of Indian and Chinese food. Puppet Restaurant-nice people, good food a happy place to relax,  Momxiang Restaurant-nice local place (near Puppet Restaurant)
Sleep: Tibetan Garden Inn (100rmb for a double room) big, comfy and the room is clean.
Doing: Ganden Sumtesling Monastery- also known as Sungtseling or Guihuasi is a beautiful Monastery with a nice atmosphere (115RMB entrance fee), Guishan temple- Its free, close to the old town and really nice with one of the largest prey wheels in China.
Bottom Line: It's worth the hustle of going up here if you're in the area. I think it's the best place to see how the Chinese made Buddhism a tourist attraction....

Sharing our bed with: a nice Chinese student and a mom and her small child. On the bus to Kunming

Kunming

The capital and largest city of Yunnan province

Getting there: Night bus from Shangri-La (201 rmb)
Sleep:Kunming cloudland international youth hostel- One of the best hostels we stayed in (45 rmb for a bed in a dorm of 6 people)
Eating: Moondog- is a nice bar and the street food all around the city was great.
Doing: Yuantong temple- nice 6rmb, Green Lake Park- if you're into dancing with to locals its the place for you.
Bottom Line: Our hostel great and the street food in the city is good. Except that i would recommend to skip the city. :)
