Thai Cooking in Peaceful Pai, North Thailand 17-28 June 2015

To get to Pai in Mae Hong song province, whether you choose to travel by motorbike, minivan, or bus, you'll have to endure an adventurous steep and winding ride going through the infamous 762 curves connecting Chiang Mai and Pai. Its about 110 KM and 3.5 hours of twists and turns but once you reach Pai you'll see that it was worth it. In the small town of Pai which has become a must-visit tourist destination in northern Thailand you'll find a relaxed laid-back atmosphere and somewhat hippy vibe, great restaurants including many healthy and vegan options, nightly food markets, poetry nights and jam sessions, detox, yoga and cooking classes but also vibrant bars and parties, surrounded by waterfalls, green fields and beautiful nature all around.

Our beautiful cabin in the hills of Pai

We were lucky to have our friend Rick save us a room at the peaceful Baan Pai Song Dao owned by the friendly Taira, Its a bit out of the center of Pai and you'll probably need to rent a motorbike (rates start at 120 Baht per day) if you stay there, otherwise its about a 25 minutes walk to the center of town. It may be hard to find but you are guaranteed a spectacular view for about 200 Baht (rate may change depending on how long you stay).

Thai cooking class with Thom at Bebe Wok n' Roll

This was one of the most fun and memorable experiences on the trip. We love Thai food and we love cooking and we were so happy we chose to do the class with the lovely Thom at Bebe Wok 'n' Roll Cooking School. We had such a great time and learned a lot but most importantly we were fortunate to meet Thom, not only a brilliant chef and teacher but such a wonderful person who became a great friend! Since the class we spent almost evey night at her restaurant, coking, eating, chatting and just having a great time. I highly recommend her cooking class to anyone in Pai, for more details you can read my tripadvisor  review. Also check out the delicious Indian food she cooks in her restaurant Bebe Spice!

  1. Greetings from Bangkok. - Many thanks for another excellent and informative blog entry. My initial plan had been to visit Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai in November. Now, after your blog post, I have re-decided: it's Pai instead of Chiang Mai. - Cheers, and keep up the good travelling and blogging, Matt.
